FRASER RIVER ADULT SOCKEYE STUDIES

Fraser River Studies

In collaboration with Prof Scott Hinch’s research group at UBC, we conducted an extensive tagging study of returning adult Fraser River sockeye in 2006. These animations show the release of live-captured adults from various coastal BC locations and their subsequent migration & survival (DNA samples taken at the time of tagging were used to identify the specific population each tagged animal belonged to). Similar to the Columbia River studies we conduct, these studies allow us to develop comparative survival tests of experimental release groups: note the 5 different treatments used for the West Vancouver release site, and the individual who got “lost” for a while!
